पिछले डेढ़ साल में बदलते मौसम के मिजाज और लॉकडाउन के कारण किसानों को काफी नुकसान हुआ है। मध्य प्रदेश के अनूपपुर में किसान टमाटर की खेती छोड़कर कम देखभाल और कम पानी में पैदा होने वाले गजड़ी गेहूं की तरफ लौटने लगे हैं।

मध्य प्रदेश के विंध्य क्षेत्र में कई आदिवासी भूमिहीन किसानों के पास एक जबानी (मौखिक) करार है, जिसे तिहैया के रूप में जाना जाता है। ‘तिहैया’ किसानों को फसल का कुछ हिस्सा उन जमींदारों को देने के लिए बाध्य करता है, जो उन्हें जमीन पट्टे पर देते हैं। इसके तहत किसानों द्वारा उगाई जाने वाली उपज का दो-तिहाई हिस्सा जमीदारों को देना पड़ता है। तिहैया किसान अक्सर कर्ज के जाल में फंसे रहते हैं।
