A Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Uttar Pradesh has trained village women to make briquettes out of agricultural waste, which is often set on fire and pollutes the air. These briquettes, which are cheaper than coal, have become popular with restaurants and dhabas who buy them for Rs 35 a kilogram.

Aggrieved by financial difficulties arising out of the non-payment of their services for the almost a year, daily wage workers in Pilibhit Tiger Reserve have warned of demonstrating in Lucknow if their payment is not released by December 20. Field director of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve blames the state government for the delay in release of funds.

On October 22, Uttar Pradesh reported its first Zika virus case from Kanpur. Since then, confirmed Zika cases have risen to 105. The district does not have any Zika virus testing facility and samples are being sent to Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the city today. Details here.

This model is expected to be scaled up across the state.
